Why Study with me? And what is my Inspiration ?
Welcome, Swagatam for this Prāthamika प्राथमिक Fundamental, Essential Course on Jyotiḥśāstra or Vedic Astrology - Science of Light of the heavenly bodies. The Study of Jyotisha is an ancient one, and a brief description is given below regards the study. My attempt for this course derives inspiration from integrating the Philosophy, lineage, core essence as well as the practical aspect of Prediction fearlessly drawn upon three core streams. One is the Jyotisha of great Muni Sage Parasara, second is Maharishi Jaimini and lastly Southern Tradition of eighteen Siddhars which is collectively called Nadi Astrology. Far from being a pot pourri, but a highly evolved and integrative approach to jyotisha, and will give you a superb underpinning of essential concepts and enhance in building upon any advanced levels you may want to specialise in. It will give you enough practical knowledge to be able to 'predict' the effects of a transit, placement or a dasha in a highly integrative and coherent manner. You will be able to identify core import and in depth meaning of each of the Rashis Zodiac Signs and the Bhavas Houses , Its lords and placements, the Planetary significations and the yogas formed. And most importantly when it is likely to manifest and what is the impact of core transits. Also, included is fundamentals on the Nakshatra, which is part of the Panchanga, giving you a overview of what is the nature of time a native is born and what are the aspects. With this you are able to read the Vedic Astrological Chart and the Almanac to a good degree and are able to suggest remedies for healing painful and difficult times and provide guidance for your family, friends and others. The Study of Jyotisha is part of the six traditional and core Vedangas (limbs or auxiliary disciplines of the Vedas). There can be no accomplishment of the Study of the Vedas, without study of the limbs of the Vedas. And one of the core limb - Jyotisha, is part of this vital limbs amongst the six. Study of Jyotisha which falls into roughly three primary categories 1. Gaṇita / Siddhanta (Mathematical Astronomy): Calculates planetary paths, Maths, Geometry, Trigonometry, and the positions of celestial bodies.• Vedanga Jyotisha attributed to Lagadha (c. 1370 BC or later Vedic period): One of the earliest known Indian astronomical and astrological texts used to time rituals, track the lunar and solar calendar, and map the constellations. #Aryabhatiya by Aryabhata (490 AD): A major Sanskrit astronomical and mathematical work that proposed a rotating Earth, calculated planetary motions, and explained eclipses. 2. Hora / Jātaka (Horoscopic Astrology): Often referred to as Patri (Patr in sanskrit is a skrit or text or a image, indeed your horoscope is the 'planetary' script of the Atma). There are other names such as kuṇḍalī (कुंडली) [-ḷī, -ळी] A figure divided into square, triangular or circular spaces, drawn to exhibit the position of the sun, planets, and constellations. Thus Horoscopy, originally stems from Hora Sastra, and the word Hora, mula root of it lies in 'Aho' Day and Ratri (Night). Putting the last two syllables and first two of Ratri, we get HO-RA. The great Rishi Sage Parasara's monumental text, that came to be written much much later, actually goes by the name - Brhat Parasara HOra Sastra. Hence the study of Hora is one of the core parts Jyotisha that focuses on natal charts, planetary movements, and their psychological or life effects on humans. There are various kinds of Jyotisha, depending on the Sage's lineages one is learned from. We have of course Maharish Parasara, author of a monumental body of works, including Vishnu Purana. He is the father of Veda Vyasa (and grandson of the sage Vasistha). We have Maha Rishi Jaimini, (a brilliant primary disciple of Ved Vyas, Son of Maha Rishi Parasara, making Parashara his guru's guru) whose body of work, has come to be known as Jaimini Jyotisha. He founded the Mīmāṃsā school of Hindu philosophy and rewrote parts of the epic Mahabharata. We then have Nadi astrology which was written down by ancient Hindu sages, rishis, and the 18 Tamil Siddhars (such as Agastya or Agathiyar, Suka, Vasishtha, Bogar, and Kauka) using their powers of deep penance, study and devotion to the subject. According to tradition, the divine knowledge was also attributed to Lord Shiva (who imparted it to Goddess Parvati, then while being transmitted through an oral tradition to the great Sages (Rishis) and the vastly learned Saints. Other Sages like Suka (Suka Nadi), Vasishtha, and Brahma authored specific branches or collections of the palm-leaf manuscripts which one can interpret in Southern india in the form of Nadi Leaves(palm leaf readings). There is also knowledge imparted by Lord Shiva in the Siva Nadi, Lord Shiva is viewed as the divine narrator or originator of the truths inscribed on the leaves. Predictive and Electional astrology is the focus of Hora. 3.Samhitā (Natural Astrology in Omens): Samhita is a Sanskrit word meaning "put together," "joined," or a "methodical collection" of verses, mantras, or texts. All sorts of Mundane, geographical, Collective forecasting (Such as Bṛhat-saṃhitā - A 6th-century Sanskrit-language encyclopedia compiled by Varāhamihira in present-day Ujjain, India. Besides the author's area of expertise—astrology and astronomy—the work contains a wide variety of other topics.)
